B&B brought out the “Lunch Crew” to feed the National Guard and Health Department
Over the past few weeks, team members at B&B Electrical and Utility Contractors, LLC., alongside several sponsors and volunteers provided lunch for the Mississippi State Department of Health and the Mississippi National Guard workers that were administering on-site COVID-19 vaccinations to Mississippians throughout the state.
B&B provided their cooking trailer and brought volunteers to two locations in the Jackson metro area to cook lunch for the hard-working men and women in the military, nurses, and healthcare workers.
Brien Blakeney, CEO of B&B, received his second COVID vaccination at the Smith-Wills Stadium and was impressed with the operation.
“We saw an opportunity to give back to our community through this small gesture as an appreciation to those working to administer the vaccine, not only long days, 5-6 days a week but also with an undeniable positive attitude which stood out. We wanted to show our appreciation for the great job they are doing in helping Mississippians get back to living daily life safely.”
From time to time, members of B&B’s management team travels and cooks for their crews who are working storm restoration away from home due to hurricanes and other natural disasters. Last year the company decided to build a custom cooking rig to use to feed their working crews as well as an opportunity to utilize it to serve communities affected by natural disasters and to give back to the local community.
The other volunteers and donors included Kyle Cockrell, owner of Cockrell’s Farmers Market on Old Fannin Road in Flowood. MS. Cockrell not only volunteered his time but also donated the veggie fixings for the hamburgers. Alan’s Meat Market in Brandon, MS provided the hamburger and hotdogs. Jackson-Newell Paper provided the paper goods, Sam’s Club in Madison gave a monetary donation and Sam’s club in Pearl provided water.
The lunches were held on location at Smith-Wills stadium Friday, March 19th, and Trustmark Park Stadium drive-through site on Friday, March 26th. It was an enjoyable, heart-warming day for all! Throughout the two events, there were visits by Congressman Michael Guest who is serving his second term as the U.S. Representative for Mississippi’s Third Congressional District, MS Adjutant Major General Janson Boyles, MS Air National Guard Wing Commander Colonel Tommy Tillman, and many other leaders of the Guard and Health Department who came by to show their appreciation and presented coins to the “minutemen” serving them.
